Toyota's All-Electric SUV Arriving Mid-2025, Built on Suzuki eVX Platform
beritapekanbaru.com -Toyota and Suzuki have collaborated multiple times in the past, particularly in the Indian automotive market. Their strategic alliance has led to the introduction of various models that share platforms and technologies. Most recently, reports suggest that Toyota is preparing to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) based on the Suzuki eVX. According to Autocar India, this all-electric SUV from Toyota is expected to make its official debut in September 2025, precisely six months after Suzuki unveils the eVX in March 2025.
In an earlier showcase, Toyota introduced the Urban SUV Concept in India, a model that bears striking similarities to the Suzuki eVX. The concept vehicle boasts dimensions of 4,300 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, making it nearly identical to the eVX. Additionally, both models share the same wheelbase of 2,700 mm, further reinforcing the connection between the two vehicles.
Futuristic and Minimalist Design
In terms of styling, Toyota’s concept embraces a bold yet modern aesthetic that aligns with its latest EV lineup. The vehicle features sharp and sculpted surfaces, lending it a contemporary and dynamic presence. At the front, it is equipped with C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), which enhance its futuristic appeal. The minimalist front bumper further contributes to its sleek and sophisticated look.
At the rear, the similarities with the Suzuki eVX become even more apparent. The tailgate design, window shapes, and overall silhouette closely resemble the eVX, emphasizing their shared DNA. One particularly distinctive element is the rear door handle placement on the C-pillar, reminiscent of the Toyota C-HR’s unconventional design.
Shared Platform and Powertrain Options
Toyota’s upcoming electric SUV is expected to be built on the same 27PL platform as the Suzuki eVX, a dedicated EV architecture designed to optimize efficiency and performance. The vehicle will offer two battery pack options:
- 48 kWh battery with an estimated range of 400 km per charge
- 60 kWh battery providing a longer range of 550 km
To cater to different driving preferences, Toyota is rumored to introduce two drivetrain configurations:
- Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) – optimized for efficiency and urban commuting
- All-Wheel Drive (AWD) – offering enhanced traction and stability for diverse road conditions
The Future of Toyota-Suzuki Electric Vehicles
As global demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, Toyota and Suzuki’s collaboration in the EV sector signifies a strategic move to capture a significant share of the market, particularly in India. With the Suzuki eVX set to arrive first in March 2025 and Toyota’s version following in September 2025, both automakers are poised to strengthen their presence in the competitive electric SUV segment.
With cutting-edge technology, efficient powertrains, and a futuristic design, Toyota's new electric SUV could be a game-changer in the evolving world of electric mobility.
